Fired Up! Creative Lounge

@rundainwnc I love that my kids love to go paint pottery with me! It’s a little pricey for all of us to go so we usually save it for special occasions/school breaks. I think these turned out pretty good 💕 #parentsoftiktok #momsoftiktok #paintyourownpottery #kids #art ♬ [Animals and dishes] Cute BGM – Sound Owl
@rundainwnc How’d we do?! At Fired Up! in downtown Asheville you can call ahead to make a reservation or walk-in. Choose a piece of unpainted pottery, pick your colors, and start painting away. At the end, you will pay for your piece(s) and let the cashier know if you want to have it shipped or come back in a few days for pick up. There’s a lot to do in downtown Asheville but particularly on Wall Street you could start with breakfast at Early Girl for Asheville Forager. Then, paint some pottery and then have a little walk to check out all the cute shops. Have fun! 🩷 #asheville #ashevillenc #pottery #828isgreat #downtownasheville ♬ Sweet Daydreams – Kim Audio

During Winter Break, I took my kids to paint pottery in downtown Asheville at Fired Up! Creative Lounge on Wall Street (they also have a Hendersonville location). This cute little spot has shelves and shelves of fun pottery for adults and kids alike. In addition to painting pottery, they do glass fusing, fun classes, and more.

Fired Up! takes walk-ins but you can also reserve a table spot ahead of time as they do get busy – just call ahead or use the online link.

I recommend parking along Battery Park Avenue or in the Wall Street Garage and then walking down the staircase to get to Wall Street. Once you’re at the bottom look up and see that the staircase is painted as a waterfall!

Never been to a paint your own pottery place? Let me walk you through how it works! (I generally reserve two hours of my time to do pottery painting.)

  1. Walk-in or make a reservation for a table (you’ll need your name and the number of people). Check-in with the front desk.
  2. Pick out the pottery that you want to paint. You will find many shelves of unpainted pottery, the price is usually in pencil on the bottom of the piece but you can always ask if you can’t find it. You don’t pay until the end, so set down your items on the table and make your way over to the paint.
  3. Get a paint palette and start reviewing the chart on the wall to see the difference between how the paint/glaze looks in the bottle versus how it looks after 1, 2, or 3 coats. It’s very different!
  4. Get your paint and any stencils or other items you might want. There are also small bottles for detailed designs. You can sketch on your pottery in pencil, it will burn off during firing.
  5. Paint and have fun! You might make a little mess on the table, it’s normal.
  6. At the end, leave your items on the table. The staff will take your items to prepare to be fired and you don’t want to drip paint onto the floor and front counter. Go to the register to check out. You’ll have the option to get your items shipped to you or to come back in a week or so in person to pick them up!
