@rundainwnc This self-guided tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway South is great for locals and visitors alike! Plan a whole day to drive down the parkway (which is fully open on this stretch!) or treat it as an audiobook and plan a future trip. The best part is that once you purchase the tour, it stays in the app and you can access it over and over again! Psst…stay tuned for the next part of this series where I’ll do the full drive Asheville to Cherokee and show you some teaser videos. Learning, exploring, and sharing is what I love most about living in Western North Carolina. 🩷 #tiktokgogrow #blueridgemountains #appalachianmountains #asheville #blueridgeparkway ♬ original sound – Runda in WNC
I was a little skeptical when I first saw an advertisement for a self-guided tour that connects automatically to your GPS – it sounded almost too cool to be true. I risked my $13 and it’s even better than I could have imagined.
Here’s the scoop – if you want to travel on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Cherokee (or vice-versa) this tour is a must have. Not only will you get a jam-packed tour map with attractions, trails, and overlooks but YOUR GPS will narrate history and share music and fun information as you make your drive. (I’m a big nerd and even I hadn’t heard all of the information in this tour.)
The tour works even if you’re not driving and just want to see the map/audio and plan your own trip!
Here’s how it works:
Open the video to the left and click the link that looks like this:

Choose your self-guided tour – this one is called Blue Ridge Parkway South. Once you checkout with Viator, you’ll get a code and instructions to download an app called Shaka.
The Shaka app has all the magic – you’ll get clear instructions on how to connect to your GPS and the audio will start playing as you drive. This particular tour takes about 2.5 hours if you just drive and don’t get out of the car, but you’ll need to reserve at least 8 hours to really enjoy this stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Get your camera ready because there is so much to explore. I also double-checked, I believe that this entire stretch of the parkway is open post-Hurricane Helene. Woohoo, recovery!

Pretty cool! I’ve been living here for over 40 years and yet this seems like something I’d like to do.
